In the 12th century, the Avignon Bridge was Europe’s longest bridge at roughly 900 meters in length, but was sadly destroyed in a flood during the 17th century and has not since been renovated.
Today, the bridge abruptly ends in the middle of the river and, together with the famous Papal Palace, shapes the cityscape of Avignon, France.
