Legend has it that a woodsman named Visu was awoken by a thunderous noise coming from beneath the Earth. He grabbed his family intending to flee and as he left his hosue he saw that the land near his home had taken the form of a great mountain. Amazed and astonished at the sight of it, Visu named it "Fuji-yama", the Never-Dying Mountain.
